Pertemps History

Pertemps Recruitment Partnership was founded by Constance Watts in 1961 when she opened the first Pertemps office in Temple Street, Birmingham placing temporary personnel to local businesses. Her son Tim Watts took over the family-run business in the 1970s and has expanded it from three branches in 1976 to over 200 branches across the country today.

Since then, Pertemps has grown to become the country's largest privately owned recruitment consultancy with a turnover in excess of £450 million. The objective has never been to be the biggest, instead Pertemps look to empower staff, embrace change and deliver a supreme service.

By the 1990s Pertemps moved towards the creation of a nationwide network of branches that harness over 90 sector specific recruitment services. Through these The Pertemps Group of Companies sources a diverse range of personnel including nurses, technicians, builders, boardroom managers and anything in between.

This year saw the launch of Jobs@Pertemps which embraces the company's core commercial and industrial operations within Pertemps' most recent acquisitions - the interactive television service, Jobs TV and recruitment website, Jobs.co.uk. As such the re-brand reflects the quality of what Pertemps is trying to achieve: on the one hand looking forwards to a vision of a fully integrated recruitment service incorporating cutting edge technology to match employers and job seekers more easily and accurately; and on the other hand looking back at the people-centric rationale that has been at the core of Pertemps since Constance Watts set up the first branch in 1961.

The company has consistently delivered independent, robust and informed recruitment solutions, an approach that has been reinforced by the company's strong reputation for performance management. It is this that has set The Pertemps Group of Companies apart from its competitors and will continue to do so now and well into the future.
